Torah Reading

Leviticus 16 : 1 – 34

1 Then Adonai spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they approached the presence of Adonai and died.
2 Adonai said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at just any time into the Holiest Place behind the curtain —before the atonement cover which is on the Ark—so that he would not die. For I will be appearing in the cloud over the atonement cover.

Yom Kippur Service

3 “In this way shall Aaron come into the Sanctuary: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
4 He is to put on the holy linen garment, have the linen undergarments on his body, put on the linen sash, and wear the linen turban—they are the holy garments. He shall bathe his body in water, and put them on.
5 “Then he is to take from the congregation of Bnei-Yisrael two he-goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering.
6 Then Aaron is to offer the bull for the sin offering which is for himself and make atonement for himself and his house.
7 Then he is take the two goats and present them before Adonai at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.
8 Aaron will then cast lots for the two goats—one lot for Adonai, and the other lot for the scapegoat.
9 Aaron is to present the goat on which the lot for Adonai fell and make it a sin offering.
10 But the goat upon which the lot for the scapegoat fell is to be presented alive before Adonai, to make atonement upon it, by sending it away as the scapegoat into the wilderness.

Numbers 29 : 7 – 11

Yom Kippur: Day of Atonement

7 “On the tenth day of this seventh month, you are to have a sacred assembly. You are to deny yourselves and do no work.
8 You are to present to Adonai a burnt offering as a pleasing aroma, one young bull from the herd, one ram, and seven year-old male lambs without defect,
9 along with their grain offerings of fine flour mixed with oil: three tenths of an ephah with the bull, two tenths with the ram,
10 and one tenth with each of the seven lambs.
11 Also offer one male goat for a sin offering, in addition to the sin offering for atonement, as well as the regular burnt offering with its grain offering and their drink offerings.

Haftarah Reading

Isaiah 57 : 14 – 58 : 14

14 Then it will be said: “Build up, build up, prepare the way, remove every stumbling block out of the way of My people.”
15 For thus says the High and Exalted One who inhabits eternity, whose Name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, yet also with a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and revive the heart of the contrite.
16 For I will not contend forever, nor will I always be angry, for the spirit would grow weak before Me, the breath of those whom I made.
17 Because of the iniquity of his unjust gain I was angry; I struck him; I hid My face; I was angry—but he went on backsliding in the way of his heart.
18 I have seen his ways, but I will heal him. I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners.
19 Creating the praise of lips: ‘Shalom, shalom to him who is far and to him who is near,’ says Adonai, ‘and I will heal him.’”
20 But the wicked are like a troubled sea, for it cannot rest, and its waters toss up mire and dirt.
21 “There is no shalom,” says my God “for the wicked.”

Fasting and Tzedakah

1 “Cry aloud, do not hold back! Raise your voice like a shofar. Tell My people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
2 Yet they seek Me day to day and delight to know My ways, as if they were a nation that did right, and had not forsaken their God’s decree. They ask Me for righteous judgments; they delight in the nearness of God.”
3 “Why have we fasted. yet You do not see? Why have we afflicted our souls, yet You take no notice?” “Behold, in the day of your fast you seek your own pleasure, and exploit all your laborers.
4 Behold, you fast for strife and contention and to strike with a wicked fist. You should not fast as you do today to make your voice heard on high.
5 Is this the fast I have chosen? A day for one to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head like a reed, and spreading out sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast and a day acceptable to Adonai?

messianic Brit Chadashah Reading

Romans 3 : 21 – 26

How God Accepts Us

21 But now God’s righteousness apart from the Torah has been revealed, to which the Torah and the Prophets bear witness—
22 namely, the righteousness of God through putting trust in Messiah Yeshua, to all who keep on trusting. For there is no distinction,
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
24 They are set right as a gift of His grace, through the redemption that is in Messiah Yeshua.
25 God set forth Yeshua as an atonement, through faith in His blood, to show His righteousness in passing over sins already committed.
26 Through God’s forbearance, He demonstrates His righteousness at the present time—that He Himself is just and also the justifier of the one who puts his trust in Yeshua.

2 Corinthians 5 : 10 – 21

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Messiah, so that each one may receive what is due for the things he did while in the body—whether good or bad.

Ambassadors for Messiah

11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we are trying to persuade people, but what we are is known to God—and I hope it is known to your consciences as well.
12 For we are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity for boasting about us, so that you may have something to answer those who boast in outward appearance and not in the heart.
13 For if we are out of our minds, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
14 For the love of Messiah compels us, since we have concluded that One died for all; as a result all died.
15 And He died for all so that those who live might no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.
16 So from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Messiah according to the flesh, yet now we no longer know Him this way.
17 Therefore if anyone is in Messiah, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Messiah and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
19 That is, in Messiah God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them; and He has entrusted the message of reconciliation to us.
20 We are therefore ambassadors for Messiah, as though God were making His appeal through us. We beg you on behalf of Messiah, be reconciled to God.
21 He made the One who knew no sin to become a sin offering on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.
